Will blackfly season ever end?

We didn't get rained on this week, but the cool, damp weather has extended blackfly season.  On Wednesday we worked in the beds close to the woods and the bugs were brutal!

We made great headway, though, cleaning out the three lobed bed beside the birdhouse and the raised bed hiding behind the big rock. We're actually running out of hostas to put in the empty beds and may have to spend some of the funds we have raised on plants!

Despite the cool weather, spring is marching steadily towards summer.  This week the lilacs by the pond were in full bloom ... they must be Preston Lilacs as the common lilacs all over town have finished.
